Sing Up The River End

Sing Up The River End' was a chant used by the Barclay Boys to get more noise and atmosphere at Carrow Road. Surely they knew people in the River End didn't go to football matches to sing !

General Football : Bellamy Transfer Causes trouble

General Football

So much travelled City old boy Craig Bellamy has signed for another club today, signing on loan for Cardiff City on a season long deal. While it may look like a bit of a coup for the welsh side,  Scottish club Motherwell do not share in the joy anybody has for this transfer; Motherwell  have threatened to issue a winding-up order on Cardiff City as they still owe the SPL side money for the transfer of Paul Quinn. The Fir Park club are still owed £175,000 of the £300,000 fee for the defender, who moved south in June 2009.
Cardiff, who were paying the fee for Quinn in instalments, missed a payment in January and to date have not sent any further cash to Motherwell, with the Welsh side previously battling a £1.9 million amount owed to HM Revenue and Customs.
Having settled that bill in June, the Bluebirds are yet to forward any further money to Motherwell but found the cash to take on board some of Bellamy’s reported £95,000 a week wage packet. To say Motherwell aren't that happy about the situation is an understatement; speaking on their official web site chief executive, Leeann Dempster, outlined Motherwell's position.

,  “It is critical that clubs work constructively with each other to ensure we can manage a very difficult financial climate for the game," the statement read. "We have given Cardiff every chance to do the right thing." and “Given all these circumstances and with legal and moral weight behind us, Motherwell FC have no option but to immediately pursue all legal routes to ensure this significant sum paid to us as quickly as possible."

Perhaps it is a bit easier to undstand Motherwell's stance still owed a fair bit of money they stand and watch while cardiff add not only Bellamy but Jason Koumas, Tom Heaton, Danny Drinkwater, Seyi Olofinjana, Martin John as well.

General Football : Embarrassing rubbish

England a team that were tactically and technically inept; a team that for all the quality of the individuals were so painfully inferior to their well-drilled opponents.

I am not going to go into the rights and wrongs of the way we played or should I say didn't play, enough has been said by the experts; personally I am not surprised one bit by this; the signs have been there for all to see. Nor am I hurt by a defeat to the old enemy as much as I once would have been, I am simply embarrassed for having the St George Cross flying in my garden; an emblem that has stood for Pride, fight and bravery over the years.  Embarrassed that the fight and bravery was so little in evidence during this sorry campaign, to be replaced by weakness and meekness.

It is the fans out in South Africa I feel sorry for the most, while the players walk away with some nice little cheques for around £125K; for their already bloated bank accounts, fans who followed their Country through this dire world cup face massive debts forecast as much as four to five thousand pounds; for following this honey-cart around.

English national football is at rock bottom, lower than we have been in the past,  time is now to act; first with a vote of no confidence in the manager hopefully he will resign, he has been paid handsomely for his earlier efforts.  If he won't walk then he needs to be pushed, along with players amongst the so called England set up.  Any new man will have very little time to work his magic before we start the Euro quailifers, but if we limp on this regime we can only look forward to more of the same.

There are in my own view only two people who fit the bill to do the job:  first is Harry Redknapp and the second is Roy Hodgson.

After being reportedly offered a £3 million pound handshake to leave Anfield, it seems that it was just too much to turn down (God... I should Say !)

A statement confirmed on the clubs offical Site, Rafael Benitez  is to leave the club by mutual consent.

Benitez relinquishes his position as team manager after six years and the Board of Directors would like to place on record their grateful thanks for his services and wish him all the best in his future career.
The Board has now asked Managing Director Christian Purslow, with the assistance of Club Ambassador Kenny Dalglish, to begin a formal search to identify and assess potential candidates for the managerial position.

General Football : Millwall win Play Off

Millwall have won to promotion to the Championship after Paul Robinson’s first half winner sunk Swindon in the League One play-off final at Wembley.

Robinson struck the only goal of the game six minutes before the interval to ensure there was no repeat of last year’s heartbreaking final defeat at the hands of Scunthorpe.

It was no less than Kenny Jackett’s side deserved in a game which they controlled from start to finish and the Lions will now ply their trade in English football’s second tier next year for the first time in four years.
