Sing Up The River End

Sing Up The River End' was a chant used by the Barclay Boys to get more noise and atmosphere at Carrow Road. Surely they knew people in the River End didn't go to football matches to sing !

City News : Welcome Aboard Stephen
Posted by adm1n on 2010/8/13 18:44:08 (142 reads)

So Stephen Fry is onboard, I couldn't be more pleased he will be a brilliant ambassador for the club, having contacts that we can have little idea about.  This time we have a celebratity who is actually doing something and needs no hunting out by the media.

Excellent move.. and yes I am a Stephen Fry fan too.

City News : Is He or Isn't He ?

City News

We have had many heated discussions on our forum over Russell Martin, with opinion split over the guy, some say he isn't up to the mark, while others say he is OK;  plus City supporters have to have a scape goat, like Andy Hughes.  Personally for me  Hughes wasn't the most gifted player, that he made up for by sheer guts and effort, and if Martin showed that I could more than live it.

I personally didn't think Martin was even a good League One full back and was slightly worried by Lambert's decision (as yet) to install him as first choice,  Micky Spillane was my first choice, but for some reason he was allowed to move on, seeing as the boy has seemingly made no bones about it I assume he is happy.

Martin supporters always seem to highlight one thing, that he is good at going forward, while I can see their points at times I am still far from convinced,  I see a little Ostemabor in him seemingly lost sometimes over the half way line; true he put one peach of a cross in the other night, but that hardly wins any argument does it.
For me he is a defender first and foremost, and that is where I look at him as a player. his awareness, positional play and distrubution is not up to championship standard, I am sure Barry Fry wouldn't have let him leave Peterbro if he had been that good without haggling for a decent fee, remember Drury ?  Fry still mentions what a great player he is.

I have nothing against the guy at all,  purely and simply I think he is a very weak link in what could be a suspect defense, I hope that he proves me wrong over the coming season; I'll be the first to say so.

Okay you can all load up and fire now.

Grant Holt  didn't turn up for the magistrates hearing at at Market Drayton Court today, the magistrate therefore found Holty guilty of a motoring offence committed as he signed for City.  I hear ya

Did Holty place more importance on playing for his club than rushing up and down the Country for magistrates who wouldn't simply change the day of a hearing into the matter, if so he is going to be a bigger legend than I thought.  Kudos

Moans n Groans : Go On, Now, Go, Walk Out the Door...

Moans n Groans

...Don’t turn around ‘cos you’re not welcome any more.

So goes the words from that Gloria Gaynor number, “I will survive”.

Darel Russell has walked away from Norwich City twice in his career.

The first time was allegedly due to a falling out with Nigel Worthington over disciplinary matters. Although, collecting an injury at about the time he refused a contract, the Club did continue to pay him until he could legally walk away to Stoke City in the end.

The latest saga saw his head turned again by some unknown lure, but money is usually the draw. During the last season he was the engine room in our push to get back to the Championship at the first attempt.

It looked, to all intents and purposes, as though he would be a prime mover for the coming season, but he refused a new contract.

It would be understandable if he went to Preston North End because they offered a three year contract as opposed to a two year deal or less. But no...

Russell is reported to have said: “"It was a no-brainer decision from a footballing point of view.

"It looks like a club that are trying to play in the right way which is a big thing, and they have the right mentality of trying to bring the young lads through and progress that way."

That gives the impression that Russell had a fall out with Lambert. Over who should play? Is the lunatic trying to dictate terms to the asylum superintendant?

As for “the right way”, it is hard to understand what was wrong with a team that refused to accept defeat and steal a victory just as the early leavers were starting their cars in the car park.

One good thing to come out of this, last time Russell ran off, we got promoted to the Premier League very soon after. And how ironic for Russell that, after dumping Stoke City to come back to Carrow Road, they went up. It would seem that Russell is his own destruct button.

He could have chosen to go without firing a parting shout about the “footballing point of view” and “playing the right way”.

Russell was a popular figure here at Carrow Road, but has he said too much and eroded the welcome he would have received?

From where I sit he has...

City News : Rusty and OTJ Updates

City News

It looks like Darel Russell will sign for Preston on a three-year dea, later this week possibily today.

Meanwhile down at Plymouth, manager Peter Reid wants to have a longer look at OTJ after seeing the player score and cruise through a friendly on Monday night; Reid had the following to say:

"He cruised through the game and looked a decent player. We are going to have a look at him for a week or so.”

Reid confirmed Tudur Jones' arrival owed much to his Welsh compatriot.

“Ian Rush, who I know well, had a word with me about him and recommended him,” said Reid. “So we're having a look at him to see if he likes us and we like him. I thought he did all right. We're having a look at Laurent, too. He's been injured but he was very determined.

“I'm just trying to balance the squad. It's difficult to say who I'm going to take on.”

City News : Angelos Charisteas
Posted by adm1n on 2010/7/29 11:47:52 (1061 reads)

Rumours are rife this morning that Greek striker Angelos Charisteas is having a trial with City this week, we have heard this a couple of times this week already.   He certainly played for some of the top European sides including Ajax, Feyenord, Werder Bremen and Nuremberg.

Personally I can't see this one as having any substance to it, the player doesn't come across as a Lambert type of player, yet we know Ewan Chester has a large network of scouts.  We have posted it, just in case.

City News : Russell in talks at Preston

City News

Reports suggest former midfielder Darel Russell is in talks with Preston North End,  Russell is a free agent after refusing the new contract offered to him by City,  at the time it looked odds on he would be heading towards Leeds Utd; who had expessed a great deal of interest.   With no disrespects to any Preston supporter, this hardly looks the move to a bigger club, he seemed intent on getting.  `
